What's New - MCP Connector and an FDD Diligence Case Study
Franchise Signal Newsletter week of 6/1

Creating content is effectively unlimited these days. While Franchise Signal uses AI in many parts of our software platform, this newsletter is 100% human written (by me). I promise to keep the newsletter brief, limit any emails to 100% human writing, and the cadence is ~bi-weekly.

You are receiving this email because you have either signed up for the Franchise Signal platform or have emailed with us with respect to our software and various FDD analysis specifics.

As brief background - Franchise Signal is a platform for franchise research, analysis, and diligence. We pull in 1,000's of Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDDs) and do the heavy lifting and plumbing behind the scenes to extract and structure all of the data.

This allows you to:

  • View brand specific profiles with key data (investment ranges, royalties, financial performance, unit growth and churn)
  • See year-over-year changes for a given brand
  • Use your favorite AI workspaces (ie Claude) - to connect with and use Franchise Signal's structured data.

This last feature is incredibly powerful for any sort of franchise analysis - you go from a static report, memo, or 300 page PDF document... to asking Claude anything you want about a given set of franchises.

"Claude, use Franchise Signal to compare initial investment and ongoing fees for Crumbl and Nothing Bundt Cakes"
"Claude, use Franchise Signal to pull in Crumbl's Item 19 from 2024, 2025, and 2026. Analyze the trends, show me a visual of year-over-year revenue."
"Claude, use Franchise Signal to pull initial investment data, ongoing costs, and financial performance data for Nothing Bundt Cakes. Build me a 5 year pro-forma financial model and highlight data I should review.

You get the idea... diligence moves from a cursory read of a dense 300 page PDF, to an interactive diligence (and learning) experience.

What is Structured YoY FDD Data?

With the Franchise Signal connector, you have access to multiple year's worth of FDDs from thousands of brands, combined with the structured data behind the scenes.

This is important. If you browse any 10-K, the SEC requires a three year history on financial statements (for example the income statement will have 2024, 2025, 2026 data). There is no such requirement for a franchise system to disclose that history (let alone any data to be presented in Item 19).

Having multiple FDDs across years for a brand, structuring the data (so that item 7 is pulled each time for example), and the associated plumbing behind the scenes is what "scopes" data so that your AI is not trying to read a 300 page PDF you upload for each year for each brand (that would quickly burn out your AI's context).

Modern AI is a game-changer for analysis in the franchise space. Move from a cursory review of a 300 page PDF with dense legal jargon into a multi-year interactive diligence platform, all with the ability to go as deep or broad as your workflows demand.
